Molly McCready had always been interested in sustainability and the environment, but after witnessing the positive impact of the Illinois Solar for All program firsthand, she knew that she wanted to pursue a career in the solar field.
After finishing her master’s degree in Environmental Policy and Administration, Molly began working at a non-profit environmental sustainability agency in central Illinois. Her agency served as a Grassroots Educator for the Illinois Solar for All Program, allowing her to see the life-altering changes it had on community members who were under financial strain. She quickly realized that community solar was a horizon through which the transition to renewable energy was possible and achievable.
Now working as Manager of Community Partnerships at PureSky Energy, Molly believes a career in solar is more than an investment in your professional self; it’s also an investment in a sustainable, clean energy future. As the solar industry grows exponentially, so do jobs in the field, allowing for a spectrum of diverse professions. Molly is excited to see that there are ample opportunities when it comes to solar.
“Transitioning to solar energy is a clear choice to take responsibility for your personal impact and for our collective impact as a species,” said Molly. “By making that choice, whether with rooftop installation or by subscribing to a community solar farm, you also join a much larger movement that takes our environment into account.”
Molly strongly believes that solar and clean energy are crucial to protecting the earth and building a better future for all.
“At PureSky Energy, we truly are working to create a more harmonious, symbiotic relationship with the world around us by partnering with municipalities, businesses, and residents alike to lay the foundation for meaningful change through community solar projects,” said Molly. “A hands-on approach to engagement that is both often and direct helps Illinois residents understand the benefits of renewables and in turn bolsters the overall transition to clean energy.”
For anyone looking to transition to a career in the solar or clean energy industry, Molly encourages speaking with professionals who are already working in the field. Through simply learning more about what their typical schedule looks like, Molly is confident that people will see how diverse and multi-faceted jobs in the industry are.
In Molly’s words, “Taking the time to explore the various career options in clean energy prior to joining can help you find your true niche!”
