When Rebecca Corley realized she could leverage her background in astroparticle physics and data science to combat climate change and protect the environment, she knew solar was the right industry for her.

In her physics research, Rebecca used energy as a metric to better understand the building blocks of our universe. Now, she applies that expertise to renewable energy, analyzing solar site performance to maximize energy output and support the transition to cleaner energy solutions as a Performance Analyst at SunVest Solar.

“Solar professionals contribute to reducing carbon emissions, improving energy access, and creating a more sustainable future,” Rebecca said. “A career in solar offers the opportunity to make a tangible impact by advancing clean, renewable energy solutions.”

Solar is an innovative and rapidly growing industry that combines cutting-edge technology with a sense of purpose. For those interested in learning more about solar and how they might fit into the industry, Rebecca suggests figuring out where you can create the most impact.

“The solar industry offers diverse career paths, from engineering and data analysis to policy and project development, ensuring there’s a place for everybody,” said Rebecca. “Start by understanding the different areas within clean energy and identifying what aligns with your skills and passions.”

For Rebecca, that passion was sustainability. “My love for nature has given me a deep appreciation for the beauty of our planet, and I’m committed to protecting it,” she explained.

Rebecca is hopeful about the future of clean energy throughout the state, and while Illinois has made significant strides toward a clean energy future, she knows there is still work to be done.

“Expanding investment in renewable energy infrastructure is essential, but it’s equally important to ensure equitable access to these resources for all communities, particularly those historically underserved,” she said.

Legislation such as CEJA increases solar energy access for Illinois residents of every background. In addition, public awareness campaigns and training programs that prepare individuals from all communities for clean energy jobs strengthen the industry and ensure the benefits of solar are shared equitably.

“By prioritizing diversity, inclusion, and accessibility alongside innovation and policy, Illinois can lead the way to a truly equitable 100% clean energy future,” Rebecca said.
